Guide To Help With Data Recovery

It is easy to forget how vulnerable data stored on personal computers is. The loss of data can have catastrophic effects on the organization or individual who owns it. Backups can alleviate this, but they often either aren't available or are too old to be used. Sometimes the end user may be able to recover apparently lost data. There are cases though, where a data recovery expert is needed to have a chance of getting the data back.
Not losing the data is even better than recovering it. The most important data loss prevention method is to backup any important data. Backups should be frequent enough that their contents will be usable in the event of a restore. Some of them should be stored off site, just in case a catastrophe such as a fire destroys everything at the site.
If your computer system crashes, there is a chance that data on your hard drive may be corrupted. This does not imply physical damage. Either the data in your files or the system data used to manage the hard drive may be incorrect. Some software is available that may be able to correct this situation partially or completely. If this doesn't work, then a data recovery expert may be able to use other software plus their experience and training to attempt recovery.
It is very easy for anyone to accidentally delete important files. In some cases, such files will be available for a while in a holding location. It is usually pretty easy to undelete them in such a case.
Even if undelete doesn't work, the data is not necessarily gone. Operating systems generally don't remove the data when deleting a file. They remove the entries for the file from the directory, and make the file's space available for reuse. In this case one must immediately stop using the system to prevent the file's data from being overwritten by another file. A data recovery expert should be brought in to attempt any further steps.
A disk drive or the entire computer may be damaged physically. This does not necessarily mean that the data is lost. Data recover experts have specialized tools that may be able to recover data even if the computer system has been underwater or in a fire.
How to locate a data recovery expert? Many organizations have standing business relationships with recovery experts. If this is the case, then the problem is solved. If not, then one should check with friends and business associates for references to known recovery experts. If this doesn't work either, than web searches, or yellow page searches for data recovery should yield some results.
