There are also foods to avoid during pregnant. A mom should have knowledge about what food she can eat and what food to avoid when pregnant. A visit to her OB can reveal to her the food to avoid while pregnant and the food that could actually help the baby to develop to its full potential.
It is also important for a mom to educate herself about the proper nutrition for pregnant women. She must know what food to avoid while pregnant and what food to eat more of. Let's go over these food and the stages of pregnancy. The first three months of pregnancy is the most vital stage of pregnancy. This is when most miscarriages happen and the risk for such is highest during the first trimester or the first three months of pregnancy. Drinking too much coffee during this earlty stage of pregnancy has been related to miscarriages. It has also been linked to premature labor and to giving birth to babies with low birth weight. Alcohol is strictly prohibited in all the stages of pregnancy. While some people would say that a glass of wine every now and then would be okay, it is still best to avoid alcohol during the pregnancy period. Fish and some seafood like shell fish, sword fish, shark, mackerel, and tile fish are on top of the list of food to avoid during pregnancy. These foods have mercury and PCB's that can harm the baby as it develops. Studies reveal that consumption of fish that have been exposed to PCB's have a tendency to lower the developing baby's IQ, and so it is better not to take the risk and just avoid all these seafood mentioned above. Fish is rich in protein and Omegas-3 so it does not mean that pregnant moms will not eat fish altogether, just ask your OB doctor which are safe to eat. Uncooked food may also harm your developing baby because of bacteria and virus that live in raw or uncooked food. For the duration of your pregnancy, avoid eating clams, sushi, and oysters. There are still more food to avoid when pregnant, educate yourself and ask your doctor and protect your baby.
