For these, you will need a POS system that allows you to program a specific price for that product. If you have larger products that require carts to move them, you will need a POS system that has a hand-held scanning device. This is so the customer does not need to lift the heavy product out of the cart just to get it scanned. You also need to consider the location of your POS system in the store. It needs to be near the exit so people pass it on their way out. But at the same time, it needs to be in a secure place so you are not a prime target for theft.

In a restaurant, you will need a different system to a retail store. For most restaurants, a POS system with a touch screen is used. Typically, a waiter logs into the system by swiping their card and then inputs the order on the touch screen. This will then generate the order through to the kitchen and the billing system. There are generally no scanners in restaurant POS systems because there are no products to scan. In a retail store, most POS systems work on barcode scanning software. Items are scanned using either a fixed or hand-held scanner and the price is automatically drawn from the system.

There are some shops that specialize in business computer systems and they may be able to offer you the best prices. An advantage of shopping this way is that you do not need to get into your car and drive to the mall or computer store in order to get your system. This is great value as you will probably have your hands full with other responsibilities.
