You are in business for yourself and you need to generate leads to promote your products. The advertising campaign you began has started to get results. All that information now needs to be worked in an effort to convert inquiry into sale, and you need a leads management software package to organize and handle all that data.
Even if you are a one person business, you still need to think of yourself as having an advertising department. In which case that information needs to stay tagged as an incoming inquiry so that you can schedule working on the follow-up. From this point you decide what step to take next, and the information is organized in the database.
If the first time you contact a lead and it produces a sale, your shipping and handling department needs to take over and get the product out the door and on the way to the new customer. All that information much be entered and stored where it can be referred to in the future, and this tagging is what comes in very useful with correct tagging.
Here is what happens if that first contact does not provide a sale, but they do want some information about it, so you have to be able to store the mail out tag so you know they asked for product information. Then you still need a means of calling that record back up to the screen if the customer calls because they never got the literature. Now, you have to show in the records that it was resent on a certain date.
Once you have sent out the requested literature, you have scheduled your contacts to receive another follow up in about seven days. This time the information is already flagged to pop up in a screen of leads to be followed again, and you read the rest of the stored information so that you know where to begin. The program has provided you with the necessary information.
When that scheduled follow up produces no results, you need something else to automatically remind you one month from that date to attempt contacting that potential customer, again. This is where good software can be real nice because computers often have better memories than humans.
At some point in time you have to make the determination that this particular lead is not going to buy anything right now, but there may be other reasons to stay in touch, like sending out monthly information. In this case the program must be able to know which people to mail something to, and which ones to forget about. About this time is when you realize that the best thing you could have is a good leads management software package.
