While there are plenty of cities claiming to be animal friendly, none perhaps is more famous and more receptive to pets and their owners as San Diego. Its warm, sunny, idyllic weather, coupled with numerous centers, stores, shops, and facilities for pets, make it the ideal city for pet owners everywhere. Even some of its most famous attractions are animal centric, like SeaWorld San Diego, the San Diego Zoo, and the world famous San Diego Wild Animal Park.
What is known as the Wild Animal Park is soon to be known as the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and is considered to be one of the biggest animal sanctuaries located in a major metropolis. Inside it is a number of wild, even endangered, animals from all over the globe, like Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia, and the Americas. Because of the wide scope of animals in the Safari Park, each visitor can get a good idea of what kind of wildlife is found in the four corners of the world.
The park's half-arid weather makes it very ideal for the designers to be able to emulate the different habitats the animals are usually found in in the wild. Also, because of the park's massive size of 1,800 acres, it also has within it a number of wide, free-range spaces where different animals, from giraffes to lions, elephants to rhinos, and everything in between, can run free like in the wild. This is more than enough space for the beasts to both survive, and thrive, and to be enjoyed by the guests.
The park's name is also not changed for nothing, because with it comes a totally new safari experience, which allows guests to see the animals as they run and frolic out in the open. They can do this a variety of ways, from a bird's eye view via tethered balloon ride, to a set path through the park via biofuel powered tram, to up close and personal via Land Rover vehicles. Just like in African safaris, these vehicles can take guests within arm's reach of lions, to be able to watch them as they prowl, wrestle, and play, all safe and sound inside the vehicles.
And there are many other attractions and exhibits found inside, everything from an open aviary for birds, large and small, to regional exhibits showing animals from different countries, to an elephant overlook and gorilla habitat! It is very important that animal lovers, both local and tourist, visit this amazing place. It should be part of every trip's list of places to see!
