ATV Riding Safety
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
ATV riding is very popular and for a good reason. However, there are a lot of ways you can get hurt especially if you don't take proper safety measures. Protecting your body is essential because on an ATV it will be fully exposed.
The most important ATV gear to wear is a helmet. You don't want just a normal bike helmet. You want a full face helmet made specifically for ATVs. It looks similar to a motorcycle helmet.
You will also want to protect your eyes. Buy a good pair of riding goggles that will keep dirt, sand, and other debris out. Those ATVs can shoot up quite a bit of stuff and you don't want it getting in your eyes.
Riding boots also provide a lot of protection for your feet and ankles. You don't need to have ATV riding boots, but you want to make sure they cover your ankles. You also want to be able to walk in them which means they need to be comfortable and properly fitted.
Wearing gloves while riding will protect your hands from getting blisters. It will also help you grip the handles better and tighter. There's nothing worse than riding an ATV with fresh blisters.
Your clothing should consist of a long sleeved shirt and long pants. This will keep bugs from biting you as you ride. It also keeps your skin from getting scraped up with tree branches, rocks, etc.
Choices you make while riding can also affect you and others safety. One thing that may cause injury is a bad ATV shock. Whether it's just one ATV shock or all of them, they can cause someone to get thrown off the ATV. Make sure you do a check before you go out and ride.
Safety is always more important than having fun but it doesn't mean you can't have fun. Make sure you check your ATV including the ATV shocks and wear all your protective gear before going out. A safe ride is a fun ride.
