Birmingham has a thriving music scene and is becoming an increasingly popular destination for party people. The Editors and the Guillemots are just a couple of bands to have honed their talents on the musical stages of this city in recent years. With such a wide variety of bars and clubs you may have a problem in deciding where best to spend a good night out.
One standout venue is the O2 Academy, right in the centre of the bustling city centre. This place has been called 'the home of live music in Birmingham' and has recently benefited from a 5m face lift. If you're attempting to find massive gigs by the likes of The Twang, The Streets and Editors then the Academy will be right up your street. Local bands are also supported and have a regular spot at The Catapult Club in Academy 3, the smallest of the rooms at this venue, every Thursday night.
Another excellent place to catch a good variety of gigs is The Rainbow at Digbeth, a quarter of an hour walk from the city centre. You can expect to have an excellent evening of entertainment at one of the many street parties which take place across all three of the rooms at this venue. Alternatively, if you're looking for somewhere to lay back in the Summer Sun then there are few better alternatives than the Rainbow courtyard, where sausages and burgers are cooked up on the BBQ.
A highlight of any West Midlands visit will be a night out spent in The Flapper, which the NME says is 'the epicentre of Birmingham's Indie scene'. Major bands such as the Pigeon Detectives, We Are Scientists and KT Tunstall have all graced the stage at this brilliant club. Beer and Wine enthusiasts will enjoy sampling the excellent rage of cask ales and house wines available.
If you're looking for a club which offers a welcoming intimate atmosphere as well as some truly outstanding gigs then the Roadhouse is the place to be. All tastes are catered to at this club and people will want to put on their dancing shoes as the infectious music plays out on the high quality sound system which provides brilliant acoustics. This is also the ideal place to make friends as many people come here for regular sessions.
