Picking an instrument is like selecting a partner. You will have a love relationship with it for your entire life.
You better pick an instrument that you like.
And the violin is most of an instrument to be loved. Everyone has their own love, and their own preference. My preference goes to the violin.
A violin is a little like an extension of your body. It is built to be held. It is made to be embraced. It is designed to move together with you while you play it and to be the means of your expression.
When you play the violin, you do something which is very similar to singing. Being able to vary the pitch steadily, by moving your fingers around, permits you to have that intimate feeling that you just cannot have with other fixed note instruments like the piano or the guitar.
The violin is just more of an organic instrument.
The violin pitch range
Violin pitch range goes from G3 all of the way up to C8, the highest note of a modern piano. The highest 2 octaves are typically produced as harmonics, so that the exact range is a bit lower than that.
Consider that a voice range is usually around 2 octaves, shifted either lower or higher dependent on the voice type.
A Bass type voice goes from E2 to E4. A Soprano from C4 to C6.
So , a voice pitch range is smaller than the violin range. That is a method to look at it. Violin is empowerment! A violin enfranchises you to assert something, to sing something, in a voice-like demeanour. But it does so by increasing your capability of expression. You get a bigger pitch range. And you get all those extraordinary timbre colours that you can do only with a violin.

If I was to think of an animal that resembles and feels like a violin, I'd think of a cat. A kitty, when it sings, makes a sound that is in a way a bit like the violin. A cat does express itself too.
A piano, finally, might be closer to a dog, I'd venture.
And yes...the shape. A violin is similar to the lustier of bodies. The body of a woman. The most tasty of the instruments. No question why everyone is magnetically captivated by a violin. It is simply the most engaging.
What about the bow?
You do not just play a violin with your hands. You play it with this extension of your hands that is the bow. It's another spellbinding item, made with horsehair, that imposes those vibrations to the cords in a soft enough way in order that they vibrate without screeching (if you're an adequate player, naturally). Naturally, you have to select the right violin sizes.
So , that's the violin. A spellbinding instrument. A miraculous partner. An enchanting mate.
I adore the violin. It's obvious from what I wrote. But I am pretty sure the same might be said for any other instrument, by their own lover!
