When you want to break the ice, just think about some good conversation starter questions. These questions can be used to create a comfortable social environment, as nobody likes an awkward silent moment!
Conversation starter questions are great to have at the ready for first dates. Some good talking points are: How was your day? Where did you grow up? What do you do? What do you like to do when youre not working? Do you have any pets? Whos your favorite performer? Do you like to travel? Whats your ideal vacation spot?
When you are armed with good conversation starter questions, you are prepared for any encounter. You will have the confidence to meet people in any situation, by asking open-ended questions about a topic that is not confrontational and does not pry into people's personal lives or conflict with their beliefs.
There are many occasions, such as at a party, where you will need to make conversation with a stranger. When doing so, put others at ease, by asking questions about the situation at hand -- this is an area that you both have in common, after all.
Ask some neutral questions when it is time to get to know another person. Always be engaged and ask follow-up questions. For example you could ask someone about their hobbies and then ask them what they enjoy about it. Ask somebody what they do in their free time or what they would change in their life if they could do something about it.
Many people tend to be introvert or shy, and have trouble interacting with people. On a date, for example, people get nervous because they are afraid they will say the wrong thing and "screw up" from the start. Just treat the dates like a regular encounter with a friend and this will make things less stressful. Your words and thoughts will flow much more easily, especially if you stick to safe topics like travel, books, music, leisure, and movies during your discovery phase.
In the early phase of a relationship with somebody, some good conversation starter questions might include fairly neutral topics like - who is your best friend? Tell me about your first kiss? What is the dumbest thing you've ever done? What inspires you? What were your worst and best jobs? Tell me about your family? As you become more involved and things progress, more serious questions might come to mind, such as do you save money? Do you want children? Have you ever been arrested? How many times have you been in love? What is your idea of a good date? What's the strangest thing about you?
Since most people are comfortable talking about themselves, pose conversation starter questions that show interest in them. An inquiry like, I like your shirt, where did you get it, can lead to a conversation about the store or a memorable shopping experience. To keep a conversation flowing, ask questions that can lead into other topics.
