If you've made it here, it's a pretty safe bet that someone dumped you recently. It's a real shame that we couldn't have met under better conditions. I know only too well the negative thoughts and how awful you can feel after breaking up. A lot of people put a great deal of importance on their relationships, so it can seem like their world is shaken to the foundation when the relationship ends.

Now, I'd like to give you a few tips that should help you feel better if you're coping with post-breakup depression.

Depression After Break Up Tip #1 - It's Okay to Feel Sad After a Breakup.

It's absolutely normal to have tinges of sadness after breaking up. Breakups are painful, and its okay to feel sad if you're going through one. Open yourself to experiencing all the feelings that you are going through right now. Covering up what your are feeling is always going to end in trouble and is very unhealthy. Sooner or later these negative feelings will build up and get to the point where you cannot control them any more.

Emotions should be able to played out fully on their own. Life will return to normal a lot faster and you'll feel much better if you simply don't repress your emotions.

Depression After Break Up Tip #2 - Find an Outlet of Expression

With many relationships that lasted a while, you will feel a loss and that there's something absent from your life once it ends and the tears and feelings of anger will soon follow. If you are feeling hurt and angry then it is essential that you try and get into something that is different from what you did in your relationship.

I was dumped and I made the decision to take up painting. I began to paint on my blank canvas and it was a great release of my emotions. I was certainly not a professional but that didn't matter. The main thing that you need to keep in mind is that it's not about creating something fantastic but only that you are doing something different to take you mind off things and to give your emotions a healthy outlet.

Painting might not be your forte and if it's not then that's fine as you can put your efforts into other creative activities. Staying connected with your feelings is the critical element here whatever you do.

Depression After Break Up Tip #3 - Plan More Activities

You will often feel very fragile when you are going through a breakup and at first you might want to just stay at home and eat junk food or watch sad movies to ease your pain. But this isn't going to help you much when it comes to recovering from your breakup.

It's important that you try and get out of the house and start taking on new challenges. Starting small and working up to bigger things will mean that you will make things easier for yourself. For example, you may just go off to read a book in a coffee shop, but that's still better than nothing at all. It's important that you still feel a connection of some kind to the outside world while you are recovering so that you don't become too depressed or socially isolated.

Of course, breaking up is a hard part of life and you may well suffer from depression afterward. Try not to let anything get the better of you and trust that things will get better with time.
