Save The Relationship Advice : Three Things You Should Not Do If Your Spouse Wants Divorce
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
Your spouse wants a divorce. You don't. Exactly what should you do? Or better still, what should you avoid doing?
First off, do not let your emotions take control of you. When you become emotional, you are powerless to take control of the situation and you have a tendency to behave based on your anger and your hopelessness. Instead of casting hurtful words at your spouse or threatening him/her, stay calm and composed. Easier said than done but you have to be in control of yourself to be able to plan out your next move, particularly if you still want to save the relationship and stop the divorce.
Don't permit your spouse to tinker with your emotions. If he or she is showing a lessening of commitment to your marriage at the same time keeping some pretense of family life as well as sexual interest with you, all this person has been doing is playing with you . You may be afraid of losing him/her, thus, you just sit and bear with this. But you have a choice. You can let this scenario remain as is to get some time and wish that your spouse will get back to his senses to save the relationship. Or you can put more value on yourself and put a stop to this trickery and not allow yourself to be played with by him/her.
Do not beg and implore his/her mercy. Showing him a rueful state will only give him the emotional upper hand. You do not want to save the relationship and get him back just because he feels sorry for you. In fact showing your spouse that you are in a miserable condition may just make him/her turn the other way even more and you will completely lose your chance to save the relationship and stop the divorce.
Do not lose self-respect. Show him/her that you are still that assured, person that attracted him in the first place and this could even lead your spouse to feel sorry that he has asked for a divorce. Your self-composure will make him/her ponder if he has made the right decision to call it quits with you. A divorce scenario can bring out either the best or the worst in a person and now is the time to show him/her the best in yourself. This will pique him and make him become conscious of his mistake.
It is best to be unruffled and composed during the whole of all of this. Hysterics and emotions are not suitable in a divorce scenario. Bear in mind that you and your spouse got married because at one time he/she was so in love with you. You may just have forgotten what those qualities are that you had that made him fall attracted to you. When your spouse decided to ask you for a divorce, he/she most likely expected that you would be in a fit and distressed. Prove him wrong and be something unexpected. Turn the tables on him/her and make him/her have second thoughts about his/her decision to divorce you. Do this and you will doubtlessly boost your chances to save the relationship
