Exploring the beaches of Cabo San Lucas on foot may be an exciting way to while away the hours in Cabo, but you can make an exciting journey on the deserts of Cabo as well.
Hiking in the deserts of Cabo is best done during the winter, considering the high temperatures during summer. Although hiking can also be done during summer time but it is preferably done early in the morning. If you want to include hiking and cycling in your to-do list when going to Cabo, you can choose to go with experienced hikers or with a guided hiking tour from companies offering the service.
The vegetation in the area as well as the spectacular rock formations are just among the many things you will encounter and appreciate when you hike in the deserts of Cabo. You can also observe and explore the native wildlife of the place. It is advisable however, to put on your long pants and leather boots as you may never know if you can encounter jack rabbits or snakes along the way.
The mountains of La Laguna and fossil fields are some of the favorite hiking spots. You can also hike during the day or do overnight hikes and camping. Ecology and history are emphasized in guided hiking tours so as to enrich and spread the knowledge about the land.
The waterfalls at Santiago called Cascadas is also a good site to go hiking. It will take you half an hour to hike towards the waterfalls and you will pass through boulders of rocks and different rock formations. Mountain bikes can also be rented for a cycling adventure in the Cabo Real Ecological reserve. These bikes can be rented on an hourly basis. Cycling in the desert and towards the old lighthouse area is also a favorite among cycling enthusiasts.
If you will be cycling in remote areas, make sure you have a map with you or better yet, get a guide or take the adventure in groups to make your cycling activity safe and enjoyable.
Above all, you should not forget to wear and bring your safety gears when riding around Cabo in your mountain bikes.
