High On The Hotel Belamar
Go to: Previous Article Next Article
There's no place that conjures the evergreen appeal of Southern California style like the Hotel Belamar. It's like stepping from a Poison video and into a white stucco and glass brick building circa 1985. Now, I mean this is a good way. I mean it in the same way that Miami Vice and Eighties New Wave retro is back in style. What's old is new again, and some of the sleek sins of the Belamar are easily forgiven. In fact, they're to be celebrated.
The crux of the issue stems from the fact that hotels in Los Angeles have faded from the cultural scene. When once the star-studded scene flocks to hotels like the Roosevelt or more recently, the Standard, now hotels in LA cater to the middle America tourists and tired convention circuit. Not that either one of those demographics are to be shunned, but even they tire of the same old options. If you're paying to get the So Cal experience, why pay for a Ramada Inn when you can enjoy a unique hotel experience?
As travel expenses continue to rise, the need for quality rises exponentially. When once families can to stay in LA for a week, now they're staying a couple of days -- three tops. They deserve to pack in the most bang for their bucks. When you compare three days at Hotel Belamar versus three days at the Skid Row Inn, there's no comparison. From the great rooms to the breathtaking view to the proximity to Manhattan Beach -- comparing the two is like day and night.
From the memory foam mattresses to the track lighting to the room service, it's hard not to feel spoiled after you stay at this hotel. Of course, that's what it's meant to do: spoil you. Why should you worry about cleaning, eating, and doing your resume? The hotel takes care of all of that. Care for a cocktail? No worries? What about a cocktail by the pool? Ditto. You really will not be left wanting -- unless it's wanting to stay at the Belamar permanently -- in which case, I'm sure the management could work something out with you.
If you're coming to Southern California and looking to stay in an average hotel, don't bother. Just save your money, postpone your trip, and then use that money to book yourself into this LA jewel. You can't even begin to imagine how accommodating they can be. And did I mention its right on the beach? Manhattan Beach to be exact. That's one of the most exclusive beaches in the entire LA basin. So, be sure you bring your bathing suit -- and your sense of style!
