For temporary replacement at different medical centers or offices, they may consult a travel nurse. Nurses have a wide range of duties and can be related to females in the business industry.
Nurses are paid on a daily basis whether the job is months or days long. Average travel is approximately thirteen weeks.
The pros of travel nursing:
The variety of the work environment is great for the nurse who enjoys change. Participating in a wide range of assignments in various locations strengthen previous skills and help develop new skills. If confused on what you want out of your nursing career, travel can help clarify it. Time working, variety of assignments, and choosing locations are all great aspects of traveling as a nurse. Nurses can travel nationally if desired.
Negative factors of travel nursing:
If the nurse has family obligations this may not be the best type of nursing. The travel means a variety in her schedule and assignments can be far from her home at times, even to other countries.
Assignments are becoming scarce due to the recession. Hospitals are finding it difficult to keep up with expenses and one of the first places they can trim their budget is to eliminate the travel nurse positions. Travel nurses are not permanent employees, so will be the first to go when layoffs come around, and permanent employees will have to work overtime. Travel nurses are unfortunately only contract employees who can lose their jobs easier than permanent employees.
Will the travel nurse make more money than the permanent staff nurse?
Education and training can alter the pay of a travel nurse. The pay rate for the travel nurse is most likely going to be the same as the permanent staff nurse who has the same education, training and experience. The difference may come with how the pay is controlled. The compensation may be an hourly rate of pay or a daily preset amount which will vary with the employer. Compensation plans involve the same benefits but different pay options and amounts.
