Traveling with children presents a number of challenges to parents, starting with the mode of travel, and ending with what to do with them once you reach your destination. Here are some tips to help you enjoy the vacation as well as your kids.
Air travel will avoid a very long drive. If you do have to drive, provide the children with goodie bags.
Depending on the age of the kids, sea trips are ideal. Building sandcastles, playing in the water, taking long walks to find shells and the fresh sea air will tire kids out and have them rushing back for more the next day. Just don't plan too much night time activity if you've spent the day at the beach!
Resorts often provide specific activities for children, providing supervised care that allows you to go off and do something you want to do, but that the kids won't enjoy. A cruise is another good option, as most of the big cruise ships have specific activities and areas for both kids and teens.
Getting out into nature can keep kids entertained, but long drives through nature or wildlife parks should be avoided. Hiking or biking will likely keep them more entertained. Do some research on the park before you go, so you can turn a nature walk into a treasure hunt, with prizes for the kids who find various birds, plants or animals on the walk.
Children will not find monuments interesting. Again, a little research on your part can make historical sightseeing more interesting, providing kids with some entertaining facts and inviting them to use their imagination.
There are many activities that are specifically geared towards children, such as fun parks, water parks and so on. Make sure wherever you go has activities for everyone involved. Disney land is always a great option.
